Rescue Operation: Six-Foot Saltwater Crocodile Freed Near Bhitarkanika National Park

Crocodile Rescued from Village Pond

Kendrapara: A female saltwater crocodile measuring six feet was successfully rescued from a pond in a village adjacent to Bhitarkanika National Park in Odisha's Kendrapara district on Sunday, according to officials.

The crocodile had been spotted in Endalapur village for over two weeks. Local residents alerted forest officials, who then undertook the rescue operation.

Chittaranjan Beura, the forest range officer of the park, stated, "After a two-hour effort involving netting and roping, the crocodile was safely captured and subsequently released back into its natural habitat. Fortunately, it did not pose any threat to people or livestock during its time in the village."

Beura explained that crocodiles often venture into village areas in search of food but typically return to their natural environments within a few days, driven by instinct.

Bhitarkanika National Park is home to approximately 1,826 saltwater crocodiles.
